A Group for Practitioners of Color
Led by yong oh
Next Meeting: Sunday, July 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The DDC People of Color Sangha is a new group at the Dharma Center that welcomes anyone identifying as a person of color to gather together in sangha. Sangha is the ancient Pali word for community—community connected by a shared intention to explore and deepen in the Buddhist-based practices of mindfulness, wisdom, and compassion.
During our meetings, we will meditate together followed by dharma discussion facilitated by Yong Oh, a community dharma leader and retreat teacher in training. By practicing together and honoring our shared experience in a safe and welcoming space, we have the opportunity to cultivate this spiritual path and explore how these powerful teachings of the heart relate to our everyday lives and lived experience.
Whether you are new to meditation or are an established practitioner of color looking for community support in your practice, you are invited to join our monthly drop-in group, which will take place on select Sunday evenings.
Sunday, July 14 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm
Questions: Please contact Yong Oh at email@example.com for more information or to sign up for the email list.
About Yong Oh: Yong Oh entered the Buddhist path through Soto Zen and now practices mainly within the insight meditation tradition. He is a graduate of Spirit Rock's two-year Community Dharma Leaders program and is currently a participant in the 2017-2021 Insight Meditation Society Retreat Teacher Training program as well as the Sacred Mountain Sangha Dharmapala Training with his teachers Kittisaro and Thanissara. He has co-led the Chattanooga Insight Meditation group, formerly served as a board member for the Southern Dharma Retreat Center, and is currently on the Leadership Council for Sacred Mountain Sangha. Yong is also an acupuncturist, loves the outdoors and bringing the practice of meditation into nature, and aspires to support practitioners of color in the dharma.
Cost: There is no fee for this group and there is no need to register. Just show up! The group is offered on the basis of dana, a practice of mutual generosity that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. There will be an opportunity to offer a donation to Yong Oh in the baskets by the door to the meditation hall.
Venue: Durango Dharma Center, 1800 East 3rd Avenue, Suite 109
