Conscious Parenting

A Class with Maureen Fallon-Cyr

Wednesdays from June 26 to July 31, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In this course, we’ll discover what it means to be a conscious parent or caretaker of children, exploring the unique opportunities for awakening with precious young beings. In support of our practice, we’ll also discuss child development and normal expectations for each age group (0 – 21) as well as problem-solving techniques.

During our meetings, there will be readings, guided meditations, information on child development, small group discussions and time for questions and answers. Using a combination of new skills and knowledge about ourselves and our children, we'll shift our perspectives from old-style parenting techniques to a way of being that supports both ourselves and our children.

Throughout the class, we will consider mindfulness, information from new brain studies, and child-centered practices that create less effort and more intimacy with the children in our life. We will also be reading excerpts from from Listen by Patty Whipfler and The Conscious Parent by Shefali TsabaryThis class is open to anyone who is raising children or works with kids.

COST: The cost of the class is on a sliding scale of $50, $70 or $90. Scholarships are readily available. You may choose to pay $25 or $0 through our online system. If you wish to pay another amount, please contact Terry Leonard at 50tleonard@gmail.com or 970-799-0084. We invite you to pay at the highest level you can afford so that all who seek the teachings may participate.

An important note: Registration fees support the Durango Dharma Center but do not go directly to the leader of the class. Instead, this class is offered on the basis of dana, a practice of mutual generosity that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. Those offering the teachings rely on the generosity and donations of participants to support their valuable work in this world. Donations can be offered in the baskets by the doors anytime.
